About The Daily Archive

So what in the heck is all this?

Welcome to my photoblog. A photoblog is simply an online visual diary. Sometimes I write captions for my images. Sometimes there is a little story. Some times I just post an image.

Info

I took a photography class in 2005 with a Canon GIII QL17 film camera - a kind of a compact rangefinder. I took the class because my photos with my digial camera were pretty bad. I got the bug after that and bought a 35mm SLR and was a regular at the local darkroom, making black and white prints. As the darkroom closed down due to economics, I bought a digital camera with more resolution and began working out how to print black & white prints from an inkjet. I built a PC for photo editing a couple years ago, so it's thoroughly out of date now. I began the Photoshop journey and have taken a couple classes to help me along.

While I still think about film, my photoworld has essentially gone digital. I still really enjoy making prints in the darkroom. I'm very out of practice as I have not had a chance to set up my enlarger (that I bought dirt-cheap on Craigslist). Someday, I would like to try my hand at large-format film photography.

I like documentary kinds of photography. Particularly of my family. I really like candids. I enjoy "beautiful" images, but for me, they are few and far between. Usually, something catches my eye and I shoot. There's something about getting into the flow of things.

BOOK

I worked with the Butterfield 8 Dance Company to document their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2007 to produce a book of images for the company to use as promotional material. The images are in black and white. The photos were shot over a period of about a month, documenting the first rehersal through dress rehersal. It was a great experience. You can check out and/or purchase a copy HERE if you would like.
